Coorong, autumn 2024 (#8 in series: taking flight/not)

 

This post’s photo was taken three minutes after the previous chapter’s featured image.

As you can see, at 12.40 pm on 13 March 2024, all cormorants near to “our” boat decided to take off.

The nearest pelicans and swans stayed put.

Sometimes, all nearby birds take wing, immediately after a few of them take the lead.

Sometimes, all nearby members of just one species – or of some species – opt to do so.

Occasionally – even within the ranks of one particular species – the decision to stay or to flee is not unanimous/not so highly “infectious”.
