For nearly a fortnight, we watched birds each morning and afternoon, as they came in to drink and/or bathe, to eat, to flaunt.
Most of the time, each particular drinking or bathing “event” involved just one species; when bathing, just one individual was usually in the bath at one time.
Occasionally, however….
As usual, the pictured female western rosella’s approach to the birdbath was a quiet and cautious one, in stages.
As usual, the New Holland Honeyeater arrived suddenly, loudly.
To my surprise, at 8.20 am on 09 February 2025, the rosella did not wait for the honeyeater’s departure, before slaking her thirst.
