Deep South WA, Feb ‘25 (#38 in series: grey fantail, wet)

 

This chapter’s three previously-unpublished photos show the same individual.

They were taken within a single minute, on the morning of 07 February 2025.

Above and below, this grey fantail had just emerged from what soon proved to be the first of two immersions.

A few seconds later, he or she “took the plunge” a second time.

Grey fantails are almost always in motion, but their “hyperactivity” reaches a peak when they bathe.

As is true of most tiny birds, they expend a lot of energy, very quickly, in their efforts to ensure they get properly wet.

Even at a shutter speed of 1,600th of a second, any photo of this activity is highly unlikely to be 100% sharp!

#6 in this series showed some even more “frenetic” bathing . It may or may not show the same individual.  Here is the relevant image, again;
