When in full bloom, yesterday and today’s featured species lives up to its common name, but on one side only.
The Purple enamel orchid is, according to most sources, one of just two members of the genus Elythranthera, which naturally only occurs in southwest Western Australia.
However, some now argue that the enamel orchids should not be regarded as a genus unto themselves, and are really members of Caladenia, the Spider orchids.

All photos in this post taken last Monday afternoon in a very nice pocket of bushland reserve off Moorialup Road, east Porongurup, near Zarepath Winery, circa 30 minutes drive from Albany.
