The featured image illustrates what just a little elevation can do to one’s view…if one is in a magnificently wild location, the sun is high in a perfect Spring sky, and sand, sky, rock, vegetation and water are basking in clear, clean air.
My photo was taken at 1.04 pm on 15 September 2021, in the western part of Cape Arid National Park.
I was looking down to the Thomas River’s little estuary, and across the vast expanse of Yokinup Bay. Mt Arid dominates the bay’s far (eastern) side.
Two “basic”, but very attractive campsites are within walking distance of my vantage point.
An astonishingly small number of 21st century humans have set foot here, notwithstanding the fact one can reach this place in a 2WD vehicle.
One of Australia’s “iconic” tourist towns is less than 90 minutes away – from Esperance, a Cape Arid day-trip is an undemanding effort.
On 15.09.2021 (not for the first time) my beloved and I spent six wonderful hours within this National Park.
That night we slept in comfortable beds in Esperance and were served excellent local seafood.
So, why do so few of the many visitors to Esperance ever reach Cape Arid National Park?
The next post will attempt to answer that question.
