“Jewel in the crown of Kashmir” (#19 in series)

Not very many paddle-strokes  – and a short walk – distant from Dal Lake’s floating market is the pictured, “pagoda-esque” mosque.

Srinagar’s older mosques are distinctly Kashmiri in style.

They surprise and delight many visitors – ourselves included.

This post is the final “floating market” chapter in this Dal Lake series.

A later series will showcase Srinagar’s “traditional” architecture, both secular and sacred.

Kashmiri architecture is decidedly eclectic.

Oft-elaborate woodwork is a signature feature, and “traditional” Kashmiri buildings have a remarkable ability to withstand earthquakes.

This current Dal Lake series is about to board a boat that is a deal bigger than any of the lake’s many Shakiras.
