“Red-tails in suburbia” (#7 in series)

Not least among Forest red-tailed black cockatoos’ qualities is their sheer zest.

A capacity to relish being alive is, I think, unevenly distributed between individuals within a species…and between different species/subspecies.

This capacity is often spectacularly evident in Calyptorhynchus banksii naso.

Photo is copyright Doug Spencer, taken  in a recently-scorched portion of Shenton Bushland at 4.59 pm on 14 May 2023.

Unfortunately, such an  “unplanned”, non-lightning-strike fire – whether via “accidental” human idiocy, or arson – is not a singular event.

As detailed here, the 05 May 2023 fire was the current  year’s second such in Shenton Bushland.

(although it is much smaller than King’s Park and does not enjoy the latter’s national and international “profile”, Shenton Bushland is also one of Perth’s jewels. Any nature-loving visitor to Perth should enjoy a leisurely walk in both)
