Three of the same (#15 in series: impala)

This little series concludes in northern Namibia, with a very elegant species of Antelope.

In the 1950s General Motors appropriated its name.

The “real thing” bears zero resemblance to any lumbering, oversized, grossly inefficient “Yank Tank”.

Antelopes are not deer.

Male deer (only) grow and shed antlers.

Antelopes grow (permanent) horns; in some species both sexes have them.

For impala, horns are “males only”.

The real impala is the sole member of its genus.

Impalas – the Yank Tanks – have many “subspecies”, and theirs is an overcrowded field; click this for an entertaining, illustrated, history/hagiography.
