Who is the artist & what is the medium?

You may or may not “know much about art”, and your “knowledge” may or may not have any bearing on whether you like this…

The sequel to this post will reveal the identity of the artist and the medium s/he deployed.

This was photographed, in situ, on Tuesday 26 July 2022, almost immediately after its creation.

As it happens, the particular “in situ” was not far from Northcliffe, where Howard Taylor lived and worked for the latter several decades of his life, circa 350 kilometres south of Perth.

Northcliffe is a very small town, surrounded by Karri and Marri forests…and by farms, for which many giant trees were destroyed.

Chances are excellent that you have never heard of Howard Taylor (1918-2001)

Great self-publicist, narcissist, ace “networker”, opportunist, trend-surfing “master of the zeitgeist”, pretentious toady, pseud…

One could accurately apply one or more of the above pejorative terms to more than a few “highly successful”/high-profile visual “artists”, but definitely not to Howard Taylor.

”The Arts Scene” was of no interest to him; he preferred art.

Howard Taylor was one of the greater 20th century Australian artists – and a much more subtle, highly individual one than not a few of those whose names are more widely known.
