This afternoon – and for too many afternoons over the next 100+ days – “too bloody hot, no thank you”, is an appropriate response to any invitation to go walking along the shore of one of Perth’s many wetlands/lakes/rivers.
This post fondly remembers a late afternoon, back when most days were ideal for wetland-walking.
All photos copyright Doug Spencer, taken at Herdsman Lake, late on the afternoon of 30 July 2022.
Pictured above (preening) and below: Threskiornis molucca, the Australian white ibis, aka “bin chicken”.
Also almost always readily-evident to anyone enjoying a stroll at Herdsman Lake: black swans and Australasian swamphens.
If one looks up, very often visible – and quite often audible too – are raptors; if one is very lucky, not every attempt to photograph them proves an abject failure.
To amateur photographers, birds of prey function as lottery tickets do to those who “feel lucky, this time” – irresistibly attractive, usually yielding “zip”.
This swamp harrier is the very same individual who featured in an earlier post.
