Aspects of Etna (#13 in series: whole lotta lava)

Today’s image finds us still in “our” bus.

In relation to yesterday’s post, we were another six minutes further up Etna’s southern flank.

When I took the photo it was 10. 05 am on 30 September 2023, and we were probably circa 1300 metres above sea level.

Ten minutes later, we would reach the lower station of Etna’s cableway, at 1900 metres ASL.

As yesterday’s, today’s and tomorrow’s featured images show, we were never far away from very many millions of tonnes of solidified lava.

All or most of those photos’ clearly visible lava  would have been emitted, in liquid form, by relatively recent eruptions – well within living humans’ memory.
