Musical bonus
The song’s “flower” is metaphorical (and stoically “heartbroken”).
Wildwood Flower is generally thought of as a “Carter Family song”, via their celebrated 1928 recording.
However, the song’s published origins go back to at least 1860, and its unpublished ones probably pre-dated that by a generation or more.
