Peregrine 1 (#38 in “a shining moment” series)

Yes, the peregrine really is the fastest animal on earth!

This post’s peregrine falcon is an immature individual.

That description is not a character judgement; the colour of its plumage makes clear that it is a young bird.

Peregrines live on every continent, bar the frozen one.

Antarctica aside, New Zealand is the only substantial land mass that lacks peregrines.

I took this post’s photo just before the bird flew.

Tomorrow’s post will show an adult, less than a second after it became airborne.

That post will lead you to more information about peregrines…and Kutch.

Today’s musical Peregrine was composed by its Australian guitarist Doug De Vries.

This ensemble version is from The Edge of Today: a mapping of the Melbourne sound – the 2005 album by saxophonist Rob Burke.

Nick Heywood played double bass, Tony Floyd was the drummer.
